The
Austin Mini
-
My first car was a 1959 British Ford Consol. I can't explain
exactly what it was, but there was something about that
little car that started my love affair with British built
automobiles. I later purchased and restored a 1957 MGA 1500
roadster. I've also owned a 59 Jaguar XK-150 (that never
made it to the street legally) and many of my all time favorite
British cars...............The Austin Mini.

The Mini had everything I really enjoyed and needed in a
car. They were inexpensive to purchase (both new & used);
they were easy to work on; they achieved great gas mileage
figures; and they were FUN to drive while maintaining a
relative high degree of performance.

After purchasing a highway coach for touring in the mid
70's it became apparent that I might need a small car as
well, to be used for daily transportation after arriving
at my next engagement. I purchased a 1977 Mini 1000 Coupe
and had a trailer built for it (and some of my production
gear, including a rotating stage) that I towed behind the
bus. Like all my Minis, it proved to be a great car. As
I continued to tour in the U.S. & Canada, it totally
ignored the energy crisis and succeeded to get through snow
covered streets when most others couldn't.
-
I currently own a fully restored 1970 Mini 1000 MK-II Traveller
(station wagon). I purchased it in 1982 from the original
owner who had purchased it for his wife as a wedding gift.
Each year I get very anxious waiting for Spring to arrive,
as it signals a time that once again I can start enjoying
the pleasures of owning such a unique automobile. To learn
